Personality: Maia is seen as a quiet individual who is serious and emotionless. She is never seen as one to get angry, or upset over small things, but rather collects these mistakes to point out the flaws in others. She is seen as a strict and ordered leader, who often feels that her team should never give less than their best, and when they give their best, they need to do better. She is one who believes that Arrancar are trash and wishes to rid them from the world. She knows her younger sister, Aemi is an Arrancar, and knows of her power, but she no longer cares for this, and wishes to destroy her and her sins. Maia may be one on the side of justice, but she feels that her duty is more important than saving a comrade.

Background Information History: Maia was raised in Edi, Japan by her mother and father up until she was four years old. When her mother got pregnant with her younger sister, Aemi, her father had died tragically, leaving her mother to take care of the two. Maia was often spoiled and lived a very happy life, and noticed how her sister was neglected. She assumed it was just because she was better than her, so she didn't really care for it much.
Later one night, she had awoke to her mother packing her backs clumsily. Asking what she was doing, her mother gave her a worried look and told her they needed to leave town. With that, her and her mother had left, but didn't bring Aemi with them. Wondering why her mother had always treated Aemi so badly, she often felt sympathy toward her memories. When she was old enough to realize how cruel her mother was, she had strayed from their bond, causing them to become distant.
One night when Maia was 21 years old, walking home, she had heard the sound of someone screaming, coming from her village inn. She ran in quickly, to see it was coming from the hall she was staying at with her mother and opened her door quickly. As she looked inside, she found her mother dead on their bed, with unexplainable hand prints that were shaped like claws. Unknown to her, it was Aemi in her hollow form who had killed her mother, but she was angered. She knew something had killed her mother that wasn't human. Searching for it, she wandered into the woods, where she came across a creature clothed in white. He gave her one look without expression before passing by her swiftly, a blade through her chest. She fell back quickly, instantly dead.
Awakening in the Soul Society, with no memories of anything except her name, she found that she had a Zanpakutou at her side. Wondering what this meant, she walked around the town helplessly, unsure what to do or think. She was quickly spotted by a captain of the Gotei 13 and brought to the Shinigami Academy. As years passed, Maia was able to rank up until she could choose her squad. She was very skilled in stealth and combat, so she quickly chose Squad 2, and made her way up to Lieutenant very quickly. For about a century, she stayed the Lieutenant, until her squad was sent on a dangerous mission to hunt down the Espada during the war.
As the war passed, people were passing away, and shinigami rates were lowering. The average shinigami did not suffice to the expectations required to fight, and so many were sent back to train. Maia was one of the only ones left on the battlefield, next to her captain. Watching so many of her comrades die made her heart break, but her captain continued to tell her she can't let that stop her.
"People come and go and people will die. You must accept the flow of life, you can't stop death. Remember your duties as a Shinigami and follow through until the end. If there is time afterward, save any lives you can, but remember, you are used as a weapon of the Gotei 13. Don't let fear cloud that judgement, it will make you weak and lower your guard."
This is the advice that Maia follows now, which makes her a very stern and strict leader. When her captain died in battle, she was to take her place quickly, and she always made sure everyone in her rank was strong. She always made sure no one was left out and that everyone was able to keep going.
During the war, Maia came across something which made her more fearful than before. She somehow came across her memories one day, while fighting against the Segunda Espada, who's name was Aemi Stronghold. Remembering that Stronghold was as well her last name, she found that Aemi sounded rather familiar. She soon realized that Aemi was the same name of her little sister when she was alive. Aemi also appeared to be a "dragon" resurreccion Espada and that her claws seemed to match the claws that killed her mother.
Discovering this, Maia was livid and now hates her sister with a passion and wishes for her to die by her hands. She continues to go through and fight, but her main goal is to make sure that her little sister comes to her demise and pays for her sins she has made as a hollow and Arrancar.
